Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have already done a genetic test through 23andMe?

The interpretation software that I use is compatible with 23andMe!

The upside of using existing 23andMe raw data is that your data can be uploaded immediately and you will receive your interpretation video much sooner.

Note: While the Functional Genomic Analysis software is compatible with 23andMe genetic test results, their test chip analyzes significantly less genes (we're talking tens of thousands) than the Your Functional Genomics test kit, so your results and analysis will be somewhat limited.

In August of 2017, 23andMe took out about 7,000 of the 9,000 very relevant SNPs when they changed to a new chip. If you got your 23andMe test done after August 2017, it’s likely a version 5 (V5) chip and doesn’t provide nearly as much information as previous versions 2, 3 or 4 (in this case, I might recommend getting a YFG kit to get the full benefit of your interpretation).

You can find out which chip version you have by logging into your 23andMe account and clicking on ‘Browse raw data’ under your account name. Click ‘download’ and when the file is emailed to you, the file name will say “genome_Your_Name_v4_full12345678” (it will say v5 if you have version 5).

Is my information going to be secure?

Yes, absolutely! The software we use has no commercial interest and therefore does not advertise. They use a software security system that is also used by the United States military. The patient portals are secure and only practitioners are able to utilize the software.

At the testing lab located in New Jersey, only your barcode is used. The lab eliminates any personal data associated with the barcode.

Your information is not sold to anyone, nor is it used for any purpose other than for the interpretation service that you will receive. Once your saliva sample arrives at the lab, only your barcode is used to link you to your results, and is not tied to your name or any identifiable personal information.

If you still have hesitations, feel free to use an alias, just remember which name you chose! Or you may opt to have your sample destroyed at the lab.

Can my child get tested?

Yes, many people use genetics to help them make decisions about how to best support their child's health.

The Functional Genomics Interpretation is available to children that are age 3 or older. This is a spit test, so they will have to gather enough saliva (about 2 teaspoons gathered within 30  minutes) for the collection tube sample. Cheek swabs test kits are available, but are $50 extra. Contact me at [email protected] if you would like this option or have any questions.

What genetic testing kit do you use?

The YFG DNA Kit
Your Functional Genomics is a custom-made test that includes genetic variations related to function. This means that you'll receive information on genes that you can actually do something about!

YFG is not a disease predisposition test. Its purpose is to help health professionals identify where there may be weakness that could potentially lead to oxidative stress (caused by harmful free radicals that damage cells and tissues) and less than optimal antioxidants (which neutralize free radicals).

The YFG test can also identify genetic variants that can impact optimal digestion and detoxification, impairing the removal of toxins and unwanted substances. It also reveals how your neurotransmitters may be imbalanced due to predispositions for slowed production or metabolism, which can lead to anxiety, easy irritation, sleep issues, or mood disorders. Another important area that the YFG test analyzes is mitochondrial function, which is needed for peak energy.

The YFG kit analyzes over 230,000 genetic variants.

Does this genetic test kit reveal my ancestry?

No, the Your Functional Genomics test kit does not provide ancestry information.

Can I get a replacement kit if something is wrong with my saliva sample?

Your Functional Genomics Replacement Kit - $52.00

  • Replacement kits may/can be requested due to the following reasons:
    • Spilled the preservative
    • Consuming food or liquids within 30-minutes of collecting the sample
    • Brushing teeth within 30-minutes of collecting the sample
    • Chewing gum within 30-minutes of collecting the sample
    • Smoking within 30-minutes of collecting the sample
    • Sealing the sample with an unknown/known object in saliva
    • Sample was not received by the lab
    • Sample was submitted to the lab and there was leakage due to not properly securing the lid to the tube resulting in not enough sample for testing

What is your refund policy?

All sales of the Your Functional Genomics DNA  test kits are final. We do not offer refunds on Your Functional Genomics DNA test kits. Our straightforward refund policy is designed to protect the integrity of our test kits and client/patient privacy. Before making a final decision, it is imperative that you are aware of our policy.

How did you determine what SNPs to include on the Your Functional Genomics DNA test kit?

The Your Functional Genomics DNA Test Kit includes approximately 240,000 SNPs. We live and function at the cellular level. Functional genomics provides insight as to how your DNA impacts enzymatic activity and function throughout the body and how this may serve as a roadblock to optimal wellness. By addressing imbalances that may cause inflammation, poor detoxification, mitochondrial dysfunction, and much more, we are able to offer nutritional support to compensate where function is potentially impaired.
